The decision from the Liberals is expected today. Should he join the rainbow coalition of Labour et al? Some people have short memories of the last hung parliament when MPs were brought from their sick beds to vote.

Alternatively is a better marriage with the Tories where they have offered everything they asked for? Although they may not agree with everything the Tories stand for it would make better government as the best cabinets always have antagonists to even things out.

Hopefully off Westminstewr Bridge
Either way, it's the only chance Lib-Dems will have at getting a sniff at power.
Why ask, and respond, in such a perjorative way? Some people seem to resent the Lib Dems being in the position of making this decision but it's the system that's put them in that position, they didn't ask for it.
// with the Tories where they have offered everything they asked for? //

If that were true, it would be a no-brainer. But they haven't.

They should definately spurn the Tories. The Parties are incompatible.

Whether they should then support Labour is a harder question. Short term, they might taste a bit of power, but the electorate would turn on them next time. Might be better for them not to support either Party and let the Tories run things until the next elec tion, which would only be months away.
oh mcmouse...you beat me to it! x closey folloed by the other two hopefully x
Joolee....yes I resent the Lib/Dems being in the most important of decision making and I agree that it is not their fault.

70% of the electorate voted against the Lib/Dems and our system makes them "kingmakers".........yes Joolee.........I do resent it.
Sqad, so you resent the system rather than the party? That's my point. People are sounding off on the Libs as though they themselves are somehow responsible for this situation. I accept you acknowledge it's not their fault.
Joole...exactly.
Personally I hope the liberals get into bed with labour.

I have never agreed with the Tories aligning with the liberals, I did not vote for this, I hate liberals even more than I hate labour.

To be honest Clegg has done the Tories a favour, he has shown them what his party is like and that he has no control over the mouselei chompin eardy wierdy lefites in his party. Cameron should withdraw his offer and let them get on with it.

So much for Clegg putting the nation first eh ? Wait 4 days then start on the other Party. What a joke.

The liberals may not have asked to be knig maker but by god they are milking it
If the Tory talks haven't yet led to a deal yet, what's wrong with them negotiating with Labour with as little delay as possible?

By the way I think you meant 'museli' but I didn't get "eardy wierdy".

Are you being satirical, or are you actually a right-winger genuinely using that tired old 'museli' jibe?!
I must admit, I am finding it amusing that the "First Past the Posters" are all in a tizzy about the Lib/Dems being potential kingmakers. So much for its the only system to deliver stable Government.
Mistyped beardy and yes a right winger and proud of it although I'm sure many left wingers dont like the beard and sadals brigade either.

Gromit, as I'm sure you know the first pat the post sytem is most likely to generate an outright winner due to its unfairness. No system is infallable of course unless you enter a dictatorship, but then I'm sure many leftes on here would think that a good idea.
This is the ultimate condemnation of FPP.

Let's have everyone feeling disappointed, disenfranchised and bitter.

Usually, FPP only leaves 60-odd% of us feeling like that!
We need to get away from the mind-set of winners and losers. This is our country's government not a football match; it's several years of our lives, not a couple of months until two teams have a rematch.

When Thatcher and Blair got huge majorities, why should the millions of us who voted differently be left with no voice for years other than the yaboo of opposition?

I don't support UKIP or BNP but they are legitimate parties and many of our fellow citizens voted for them. Why is that just swept under the carpet as invalid?

I can't see how the principles or manifestoes of LibDem and Conservatives can be aligned.
Equally, I can't see how LibDem and Labour can achieve a workable majority without some Rainbow alliance which will be fragile and fraught.

Either way, the key question might be what will happen at the next (imminent) election.
LibDems and Labour cocking it up could be the best outcome for the Conservatives and a big majority at the next election but that would mean we are still stuck with this discredited 'first past post takes all' system.

I reckon Clegg must be a good poker player.

Not only has he got Brown to resign but is about to choose the Tory party to do business with.

latest:

///The Lib Dems and Conservatives have resumed negotiations for a fourth day, as a senior Lib Dem tells the BBC the Tory offer was the "only deal in town".///
Hi,,i dont think mr Brown is going to resign for four months so we will have his sad old face leading us for months to come.
I think a Con/Lib Dem deal is done.

So how do you get stable government when one third of the population (OK roughly) hates the other two thirds and wants to impose their policies on them?
