Have any of you actually used sleep learning before to learn a new language, build confidence or stop smoking etc.. has it worked?

Tried it - didn't work, but did give me some really weird dreams!
I can see where learning a new language while you sleep could make your dreams unintelligible upon waking. But if sleep learning can teach you to stop smoking in your sleep, that might just be worthwhile.
I've never tried it in a formal way but as I suffer from sedatephobia (= fear of silence) I always have BBC World Service on at a very low level (so that I can only just hear it if I move my ear right next to the speaker) throughout the night. I do seem to know more about world affairs than many other people do ;-)
No way, when you sleep, your brain needs to rest!...How can it rest when you're trying to make it learn at the same time!......
I would be a shame to learn an encyclopedia of knowledge forwards and backwards whilst sleeping and forget how to wake up . . .
