A very serious medical question.

Why can't I sing properly when I have a cold?
I am desperately trying to singalong to the radio, but all that comes out is a deep growl sound or a few wobbly staccato notes. I sound like Phyllis Pearce asking Percy if he wants a pint.

Sqadlet - obviously this is an ENT problem. I am extremely upset at my inability to warble at my best. What can I do?

My darling.....when one has an upper respiratory tract infection(cold) the vocal cords which are normally glistening pearly white, become thickened and a harsher sound is produced.

you should worry salla, i'm tone deaf and cant sing one single note. If my kids were naughty no amount of punishment would work, except, a chorus or two of "The Summer of 69" they would behave all day after that !

I would sqad - but it makes me giggle cos it reminds me of that advert with the ladybirds.... where they flirt, skirt each other, then pounce. I think it was for John Smiths bitter, or Tetleys?

When you have a cold, your ears unblock. What you're actually hearing when you sing is your real voice. Other times you are blissfully unaware that people up to a radius of 5 miles cover their ears, small children cry, and once the RSPCA was called as someone thought that a cat was being tortured.
