At the moment, we have 4 terestrial channels, built in freeview and some freeview channels from our sky box (we cancelled our subscription but still get the free channels.) However, we can't record the freeview that's programmed into our tele.

Most of the time that's ok and we can record terestrial or sky, but there's a couple of channels, we can only get through freeview so can never record them.

Is the tele wired up properly? should we be able to record freeview? surely we should . . .

don't know, molly. but my parents are having problems with their freeview since their area has officially gone digital. before, they got loads of channels and could record etc. but now it doesn't work. their ariel is modern and digital compatitive and they are now contemplating sky as a repairman said the reception for freeview in their area was rubbish and they just can't get the channels. maybe you have the same problem. btw - did you know their is a bit of a row going on in the dinner thrad - i tried to stick up for you about the lack of food and your dad. have a peek - lord knows what people are saying now x

i know, i replied a minute ago. I have done a thread that mentions my mum, and bus fares.

Its always been like that though, ever since we got the tele, last year and anyway, our area hasn't gone digital i don't think.

We can't have done, else we wouldn't get terestrial, or would we, if its coming through a freeview tele?
Molly

Freeview TVs can't output their digital signals to a recording device. They don't have video output, only audio. If you want to record Freeview channels you will need to use a separate Freeview set top box with its output into a recording device, eg, DVD recorder or VHS.

aaahhhh, well whats the point in freeview being built in if you can't record it, channel four + 1 and a few aren't on sky freeview.
Nothings changed molly!

In the "old" days TV's had analogue tuners in them and you couldn't use that to record, you needed a seperate recorder with another tuner in it (in those days it would have been a video recorder)

Now you have TV's with digital tuners in them that receive freeview, but you still cant record using the TV's tuner, you still need a separate recorder with another tuner (just these days it's more likely to be a DVD recorder or HDD recorder)
