Mouse problem
19 Answers
I got a new logitech plug & play mouse today because my current one (same type/brand) has an annoying loose connection. It's supposed to just plug in and go but on 5 attempts I'm getting either 'unidentified device, installing etc and then an error message that some file is missing' or 'successfully installed' but still doesn't work.
Tried it in another laptop though and it worked straightaway without installing anything.
Any help please?

Been to device manager with old mouse and it shows 2 mice. The logitech one and ps2 something. Put new mouse in this morning, says installed correctly but doesn't work. went back to device manager and only the ps2 one was there, logitech had gone. Don't have a cd.

Have you tried conning your laptop into believing that it's the old mouse? i.e.boot up with old mouse, switch off, plug in the new one and boot up again - Your laptop might not notice the change.
Alternatively, for the sake of a fiver, it might be simplest just to head to your local reasonably-sized branch of Tesco and purchase a different mouse altogether:

The wonders of bush telegraph, thanks for getting the message.
I'm really stumped on this, I have switched off, plugged in the new mouse and booted up again, it found new device and says installed but just won't respond. Also if it's relevant the red light flashes all the time but it does work starightaway in another laptop.
I'll cut my losses I suppose but it was a tenner reduced from £20 in Smiths.

I think I put PS2 because I didn't read it properly and have played ps2 alot but not through my laptop obviously. It probably said something like P2 or PS synaps/synaptic pointing device??(sorry can't remmebr the exact words). My work IT have suggested that tonight I go into device manager and delete anything related to mice and then try again.
If it says you're missing DLL files, then make a note of which ones are missing, and then go this site and download them.
http://www.dll-files.com/
Once they are installed, try plugging the mouse in.
