I have booked to go to Cape Verde in January 2011. my passport expires on May 9th 2011. will I need to renew it before I go?

Yes you will - CV has a 6 month requirement

You will also need to get a visa prior to travel either through your tour operator or with the CV authorities

Thanks for pointing that out, but I believe that passports have to be valid for a minimum length of time after returning from holiday.
