opening a bank account

Do you need to be in employment to open a bank account ? I ask because i have a cheque from my divorce settlement and want to put it in to isa s but not sure if it can be put straight into one or if it has to go into an account first and im currently unemployed without an account. If the money could go straight into an isa then its not a problem.

I'm sure you'll be able to open an ISA without a job as it's not a payments account and you can't go overdrawn. Just look online for some

no you dont need to be working to open an account just got to the bank you want to deal with and ask them to set one up

and if you're on certain benefits, you need to declare it..

I have a cashbuilder account, i'm only 16 and haven't even got a part time job.

I know you need a job and good credit rating to get a credit card, my mum says that the queen probbaly wouldn't be able to have a credit card as her rating is rubbish as she doesn't work properly. Were you thinking of that instead?
