Tatting - its driving me mad!!!

I am trying to teach myself how to tat. There are some very good youtube videos and I think I have mastered the art of getting the knots. But...................... no matter what I do I cannot get the knots to slide on the thread - therefore I always have a ring of thread and it looks rubbish. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong please. Thanks

I haven't tried tatting but maybe you are puling the thread too tightly?
