August Holiday in Bangkok

Given the recent developments in Bangkok, would you cancel a holiday there in August?

I know from the past that this kinda of thing happens fairly frequently and tourists almost completely escape it but this one seems a little more serious. All comments/views much appreciated!

If I was only stopping off there for a couple of nights on my way back from somewhere I would still go but if I was going there for the main part of the holiday I might think twice. It`s been brewing for a while and has flaired up before so it could be a longish dispute

My friends have just been on a little holiday tour and had to cancel the entire Bankok leg - they are gutted. What a shame, hope you don't lose any money etc...

My brother had a four night stay planned as a part of his holiday in September, the tour operator called him yesterday and said it was likely to be cancelled unless things improved by late July

My son lives and works in Bangkok and as you say the situation is quite serious, although only a small part of Bangkok is involved. However there is quite a bit of civil unrest in other parts of Thailand.

Many foreign embassies have closed their doors (including British and American) for safety reasons, and quite a few countries have recommended against visiting the country whilst the current situation continues.
I do not think that things will calm down soon, I think they will have an election but this is proposed for about Oct/Nov, so the unrest could continue for some time yet.
You must also consider that any Travel Insurance you have will not cover you if you intend to travel there.

Personally, I am looking to arrange to visit my son in Jan/Feb but this is becoming difficult to sort out whether it's a good idea or not.
