Hello All. I have a 15 year old Proton Persona which has given me years of excellent service. However last week it was broken in to (door forced open) and the ignition switch literally ripped from the steering column leaving a bundle of bare wires. With the aid of a qualified motor mechanic friend we were able to rig an ignition switch and a starter switch to keep the car going. Everything works ,lights. indicators wipers, horn etc. except the electric windows; there appears to be no power to the windows control panel. I have checked the main fuse 30 amp and it is good so I am a bit at a loss for what to do next. Could the windows be on a seperate circuit? or am I missing something...Any help would be greatly appreciated....S.O.G.
Suggest you pop to the local library and see if they have the relevant haynes manual. That will have the cct in an easy to follow manner. I suspect there is a wire from the ignition which has not been connected.
The manual will show if there are other things on the same fuse as the windows. Good luck
I would hazard a guess that the wiring was pulled from a connector/relay behind ign switch (elec windows use a bit of current, so are connected near ignition incoming) ... or fuse blown.
You were both right. On careful re examination of the wiring we discovered that we had misconnected in one area and were able to rectify the problem. All windows are now working except for the driver side because the low life vandals have buckled the door so badly that the window jams, so that is my next project to see if I can "unbuckle" it a bit. Many many thanks to you both for your help.S.O.G
