There was to be a fourth book but unfortunately Larsson died a few years ago .
It's very Scandinavian , very deep and dark a la Mankell and Hakan Nesser.

Just finished it, I started off wandering why people were so excited about it, then realised it was 03.30 and I'd read nearly half the book., I went out this morning and ordered the next in the series, The Girl Who Played With Fire. As shaney says larsson intended writing a fourth and possibly more books in the series, but unfortunately he died suddenly. some great characters, great story lines and a great shame we'll never know what larsson intended for them
Was Larsson himself murdered ?
It has been mooted.
He did receive death threats.
As ye sow, so ye shall reap (Holy Bible) .....
I've just finished the first book (Dragon Tattoo) and starting on the second (Played with Fire). GWTDT was very good, but some really offbeat characters in it - although possibly not within Swedish culture, I don't know.

It is a cracking book.
If you're looking for some meaty holiday reading could I suggest The Yiddish Policemens Union, if you look on the right here: http://www.theanswerb.../Arts-and-Literature/ it is on the carousel - I think we might gte paid if you buy it through there? No idea however!

In the Express today there is a review of a biography Larsson, and apparently he died intestate, and under Swedish law his estate passed to his father and brother and not his partner of 30yrs, she however has possession of his computer and all his notes for future books and she's not releasing anything untill the laegal situation is sorted
I read Girl with a Dragon Tattoo yesterday and it was ok, I liked it. Not entirely sure I agree with all the hype but it was a fun read. Am I right in thinking it's part of a trilogy? (sp).
Sorry if I've repeated anything but I'm worried if it is the first part of a three part story I'll read some answers here and have the other parts ruined for me so I'm ignoring them! :c)

books like the GWTDT, makes it easier to appreciate quality books eg the count of monte cristo. i was struggling at one stage, then picked up this easy on the eye book, read it quite quickly. dont get me wrong,it was enjoyable in parts, but i wouldn´t be in a rush to read the other 2. but it did make returning to the count of monte cristo a lot easier, quality versus must i say trash.
each to his own
each to his own
That's interesting piggynose. Am currently stuck at home because of a broken ankle, so I'm reading loads of stuff. When I'd finished a non-Wallander Henning Mankell book (can't remember the title), I started ploughing my way through the Count of Monte Cristo. Got just under a third of the way through and realised it was all a bit hard going, so have temporarily given up in favour of another Wallander novel (Before the Frost). But perhaps I shall go back to it after Wallander.
Nice to see another Wallander fan chokkie. I've read all his books ,well all the ones that have been translated so far .He's got a new Wallander out this year The Troubled Man which is the last one .But it will be while in transalation I expect .
Have you read The Pyramid which tells you all about his early life ? Another Mankell book which I really enjoyed was The Man from Beijing.
I know he's only a fictional character but Wallander goes on to have Alzheimers which is rather sad .I suppose this was Mankells way of bringing the books to an end .
