Have the Liberals signed their own death warrant?

Have the Liberal policies in action shown what a (crap) party they are? Before we could ignore the way out left ideas only they can come up with but now the reality has set home. If they last until the next election could they face complete obliteration?

How can they NOT last, now the collaboration has been set up? Dave can't go back on the coalition agreement, can he (short of a vote of no confidence)?

The real question is have the Tories signed thier own death warrent. To stay in power they will have to water down certain policies outraging the more right wing members.

It is a ridiculous alliance the Libs are more left wing than Labour these days.

The next election will be in less that 12 months I think, already there are rumblings of discontent whithin both parties after the summer holiday, both metaphoricaly and really, the gloves will come off.

But hang on, aren't all the PR devotees telling us that this has to become the norm? are we saying that if we get PR we'll be having annual elections? Sorry guys you can't have it both ways. If no clear majority is given then the parties have to do deals, this is rare under FPTP but the norm under PR, and thus normal that compromise is necessary from both sides in governement currently.

No I think on the contrary the exposure the Lib Dems are receiving currently, they can only improve in future polls - I think they have established themselves as a visible alternative to the Tories and Labour in the future. Although whether they are viable enough to ever come into power on their own, they will have to improve on their policies and be more substantive.

The Liberal policies seem so nieve. Any reasonable person can see the human rights legislation in its current form is faulty. To allow a al qaeda terroist (as said by the judge in the case) to walk freely about Britain is plain nuts. Twenty four hour surveillance is almost impossible to achieve.

As for their amnesty of illegal immigrants has not been well thought out.

Nor has the imposition of a £2500 cap on bonuses. They will just fly the nest and go elsewhere.

Even Labour are coming round to the LIberals disastrous left wing policies and are probably pleased they never got into bed with them.

The real risk for them is falling under the Tory wheels.

I was listening recently to a trading floor manager in the US saying that some of his unhappy traders were threatening to leave for the UK if they didn't get a better deal!

Seems to me this thread is a combination of wishful thinking and sour grapes from the right who thought they'd won the election only to find that they were going to have to give in to the progressive Majority after all.

Never mind I'm sure Cameron will still pick up a peerage next year

In your example could these workers just come to London and get a job tomorrow?

The jobs come from Internaltional companies. They can pay anyone anywhere in the world these days.

Whilst many would prefer to stay in Blighty, push them enough and they will go, just look at a previous labour Government who tried to tax at 90%

To say the Tories are in a minority is a bit of an exageration. You are assuming all labour and liberals agree 100% with all their policies, which is highly unlikely.

I think the coalition will survive as long as their joint policies seem to be working but as soon as things start to go wrong the extremists in both parties will blame the others. Of course the Tories are not the toughies of yesteryear. That is one of the reasons why they failed to get a working majority. They have become much softer and therefore much closer to the Liberals so the coalition may last longer than we think.
