Vacuum cleaners

My Hoover has just died. It doesn't deserve to go to hoover heaven it was so rubbish! What do you all recommend? It will be used on carpets, wooden floors and tiles and has to be able to cope with dog hair. I don't really want to spend more than £300 if possible. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

i'm a gas engineer and i use customers vacumn cleaners every day, have to say i hate dysons and think Henry's are hard to beat !
