Hi folks,
I am installing a water softener in our house and it is impossible to seperate the outside tap to supply hard water, I know softened water will be great for washing my black car, but what about watering plants?
This link (to the website of the Royal Horticultural Society website, where they ought to 'know their stuff') is primarily related to the use of 'grey water' but the final paragraph is relevant to your question:

Time to get a water butt, perhaps?
Hard water which contains lime as you must know is ok on most plants, but if you have ericaceous plants then you must buy a tub of ericaceous plant neutralizer to add to the watering can. ie: Heathers, Rhododendrons, azaleas.
