USB audio coexisting with analogue?

Hi all

I have a set of analogue speakers attached to my pc (via the headphone socket) and these have been working fine

Recently I bought a USB headset for conference calls, and I was hoping I'd be able to switch between them with software, but it seems that when the USB headset is connected that's the ONLY sound device I can use - the analogue speakers only work when the headset is not connected

Is this the way it's supposed to be, or is there some Windows setting I have not yet discovered??

My guess is that something takes priority. Normally if you plug headphones in then you don't want sound coming out of the speakers.

You can always unplug them when you need to use the speakers.

You've not given any details at all that could help people answer this.

What version of windows is the bare minimum information that is needed for all posts asking anything to do with windows. also what software are you using?

Sorry, I should have added that this is Windows XP Pro SP3

I was hoping not to have to continually connect and disconnect the headset, but perhaps that is the easiest way to handle this after all

So far I'm only testing out the configuration, so have been using Windows Media Player

in media player right click on the title bar and select tools > options then click on the devices tab and it will show you a list of devices, if you double click on the speakers you should be able to select the audio device for media player to use.

The process should be similar in other software if it has the option to change audio devices, otherwise you'll have to change the default playback device every time in control panel > sound and audio devices then click on the audio tab.

Have a play and see what settings suit you best.
