Since sodium chlorate was taken off the shelves, my garden is a mass of weeds between the pebbles on my drive. This was a cheap and easy way to apply weed killer. But since it has gone forever does anyone know of a cheap product that is applied by watering can. Thanks in advance

I'm the world's worst gardener but a bit of googling suggests that glyphosate is the cheapest suitable alternative, as long as you buy stores' 'own brand' products (rather than those of the 'big name' manufacturers). e.g: http://www.wilkinsonp...d7%0A5gAB61mLVQ%3D%3D

Verdone is available at garden centres - it will kill dandelions, daisies, clover and just about anything except the grass. I have used it for years and is an excellent product.

many thanks to you both
I was in Superbuys Garden Shop today and bought Sodium Chlorate so you can still buy it but not Brushwood Killer but S C must be used up legally until the end of June.
I used to put down table salt to kill the weeds. It worked a treat but I had to apply it to each weed on my lawn individually using a ea spoon and make sure I didn't spill too much on the grass.
Somebody needs to tell Superbuys about the law then!

Sodium Chlorate has been banned from sale since 30/09/09. The use of existing stocks was permitted only up until 10/05/10. It's now illegal to sell it or to use it.
