Which gloves for punch bag

Hello group, my son has just bought a 5ft punch bag, he needs some gloves for training, I've looked in Argos but I'm not sure which ones to purchase, would I be right in thinking that he needs sparring mitts, as opposed to boxing gloves?

i use the mitts but you can use boxing gloves
