Does anyone remember the Gary Jules version of mad world? I loved this, especially the piano at the beginning, but why did it do so miserably? Was it because more people preferred the Tears For Fears version? What do you think?

It was number one in the most competitive chart week of the year. It probably outsold the TFF original too. Hardly doing miserably!
Exactly what I was just thinking!
Quite so - number one for 3 weeks in fact, over Christmas 2003 / New Year 2004. I should imagine many artists would love to have a single perform that "miserably" :-)

No i didn't mean that, sorry a bit vague, but what I meant was why it has since disappeared. Why is it no longer played? Why don't we hear it anymore or is it just that I am listening to the wrong radio station?
Why not just play your own CD of it?
Probably because it's a little too down-tempo to fit in with most day-time radio playlists, and since they are not being paid to play it by the record companies..... sorry, I meant to say 'since it is not a current or imminent chart release' and not a 'classic' either, then it has disappeared from the playlists.

You hardly ever find singles being played once they have left the charts, unless you tune into an "oldies" station like Radio 2. That's the fickle nature of pop! We get a constant stream of great new music- lucky us! The poor pop stars only have a few months to rack up as many royalties as possible.

You could do him a favour and keep requesting it from your local radio stations! That way he will be earning royalties- all thanks to you. (But Tears for Fears will be earning more!!!)
