crossword winners

Has anyone had a big win doing crosswords? I mean 500 pounds plus. I've won 100 pounds and 15 pounds but still waiting for the "big win".I do about 22 per week. I know, I'm a sad git.

Had a couple of big wins several years ago now with a Womans weekly puzzle book which they no longer print.
One �200,one �100.I 've had a few small wins with Lovatts puzzle books.I do the DT prize crosswords and have done so for yonks but have never won anything.I also do the Radio Times every week and the Saga mag.I don't think it's sad!!
I get a lot of enjoyment from doing puzzles and you learn a lot from them.

your so right about learning a lot from them shaneystar. If only I could remember most of it!. I'm only poking fun at myself. I've started donig the daily record 500 pound crossword but wonder whether anybody outside of scotland would win it. whoops. am I allowed to say something like that. cheers

Won a Digital Camcorder 3 months ago, cheapest price  I could find it for on the web was �436.00, have also won several bottles of very good Cognac in the Licensee Magazine,they did not last very long .......CHEERS

I only do prize crosswords, theres no point in doing them for fun with so many of them about.I just wish I could crack the big one. Is there anything to gain from the timing of posting them or is it a case of just pot luck of yours being picked out of the hat?

I subscribe to Lovatts but have to admit I only do the prize comps in their books.I pass them on to my sister-in-law to finish!
Never mind our luck may change soon!! I forgot to say I did have a bit of luck recently only not with a crossword.I renewed our Saga mag subscription on line and they were conducting a poll.This was just before the election...so I entered and was amazed when my name was the first drawn out and won �500.

The most I've won so far was the Daily Mail �20. Would like to win a Times or Sunday Times just to say I have! But would really like to win the Mail on Sunday �1500 or the Sunday Times Travel "Where Was/Am I" compo.

Hi fergol

I've won the Herculis crossword �500 a couple of years ago and have been runner up 4 times with the Telegraph GK on Saturdays. Would love to win the Mail crossword though!

A friend of mine worked in the crossword section of a paper. He reckons the only way to increase your odds is to enter the less popular puzzles. For instance, the Radio Times have masses of replies whereas the Financial Times sometimes have far fewer than 100. After that I started begging the FT off of my colleague and won more than once. (Rather swish pens).

Of course this means entering crossword comps for smaller prizes but having more chance of winning.

BTW, I have also won the DT GK this year and was runner up a couple of weeks ago.
