Alliance & leicster and Santander

Now that the alliance is being over taken by santander, can i pop into a santander and use it like a normal alliance? the nearest alliance to me is well over half an hour away.

AFAIK not yet - I don't think the integration of systems is due to be completed until later in the year.

Santander's statement says the the transfer of personal accounts should be completed within the next three months. Once it is, you'll be able to use any Santander branch for your banking. (You'll also still be to continue depositing and withdrawing funds at any Post Office branch, but that facility won't be available to new account holders):
