Dual Citizenships

Some countries allow dual citizenship. Is it a common practice or is it only a few countries. I read somewhere if you have a grandparent of Irish citizenship, you could apply for Irish citizenship and be a dual citizen, along with your own country. Just wondeing.

Many countries allow it - some don't.

It can have disadvantages - eg liability for military service in the second country
