Picked this up from one of last nights posts

set your sights a little higher, if you have experience and qualifications apply for some threes and even fours if you think you could do them,,

other big BIG advice join the hospital's Bank service for admin, and do some cover work for them things like reception, secretarial, med records etc, get your face known some of the cover they need is evenings and week ends, so can be flexible around other commitments It is often bank staff that get the permanent posts when they come up.and there is always the chance of a block booking for 3-6 months . If your local trust doesn't have an admin bank, ask their recruitment office what temp agencies they use and sign on with them It is just a case of getting a toe in the door

Next bit of advice if you haven't done it already, once you get even a regular part time post, look at getting NVQ 3 business and Admin as the NHS seems to like that one for its junior admin staff, you probably can't do it til you are in work but worth checking with a local college in case they have links with organisations that can support it. I have helped a few colleagues with theirs and would probably be able to support you on-line if you need a bit of extra help

Pity you don't live in Birmingham, we have some band 4 posts coming up that don't have'sitting tenants'

Thank you so much for your interest and help Rowan. I have pretty much been applying for any admin job I see at my local hospitals with the hope that even if I only get an interview it's good experience. I am have been looking into doing Pharmaceuticals as a career, but my situation at the moment means I need to just get into a job a.s.a.p. I will check to see if my locals have the Bank service. I am signed to most of my local agencies but it would seem my local hospital seems to deal with recruitment alone - I will have to look into it further.

With regards to the NVQ - funnily enough I have just this week been looking into possibly doing this course but unfortunately my local college only offers it as a full time course. I am currently looking into possibly doing it as a home course.

I have applied for about 5 positions in the last week and usually it takes 3-4 weeks before you get a letter through to offer an interview, so we will see. Fingers crossed.
