dns sevice or domain forwarding?whats the difference ?:0(

hi all
i currently have a website at freewebs.com and a domain name at godaddy
at freewebs to have my .co.uk address point to my freewebs website i have to pay a fee for dns service? but at go daddy i can forward anyone who uses the .co.uk address to my freewebs address with masking for free?
im still a beginner at domains and websites
could anyone tell me the difference between the two apart from ones free lol 
any advice and help would be much appreciated thanks!

Domain forwarding just generates a frame around where your website actually resides. It's free because the bandwidth usage is hardly anything for the forwarder. It's not very professional doing it like this. And search engines never used to index sites like this (they may now though). The other disadvantage is that people won't be able to bookmark your pages very easily as the main web address just stays in the address bar no matter what page you go to due to the frame.

domain masking would hide the "mydomain.com" address. proper domain forwarding (obviously) shows this.
