Hi, any tips on taking my contact lenses on holiday for the first time? Am I okay to sunbath and swim with them?

Don't swim with them unless you wear good fitting goggles or mask... the water will wash them out of your eyes to be lost forever...

... and don't sunbathe too long either... your eyes will dry up with the heat and your eyes being shut for long periods of time...

Going anywere nice?

hey well i know that ur not meant to swim in them but i go swimming in mine all the time and when i went to Spain earlier this year i wore them when i went in the sea and they were fine but I was only splashing about. Hope u have a nice holiday!

For the swimming question it depends on the type of lenses you have.  I have used both dailies and monthlys, and when i went swimming in the monthlys (which the optition said i shouldnt do) i was wearing goggles, not very good ones so the lenses got wet and basically dried and were uncomfortanble and eventually washed out.

With the dailies the optition said if i go swimming in them to wear goggles and take them out afterwards, these were slightly better for swimming in but still dry out, generaly i would sugest taking your glasses so you can take the lenses out of they get to uncomfortable, or wash out your eye, because if your as blind os me nothing is worse than being blind for the rest of the day.

(sorry for the length of post, once is start waffeling its hard to stop)

Talking from experience, take a spare pair(i didnt and was one eyed)

Dont get too p*s*ed (thats how mine went)

Thank you everybody! I am off to Spain for 11 days on Saturday! I am planning on taking 2 pairs of lenses, as I really hate having to wear prescription sunglasses on the beach! But I will remember your advise about swimming with my lenses in!
I have gas permeable lenses and always worn them on holiday and have had no problems. If youre going to be sensible though, make sure you have sunglasses for sunbathing in, goggles for swimming in are a good idea (although I never bother!) and if you have a spare / old pair definitely take them and wear them in the sea or for snorkelling. If youre going anywhere dusty wear your glasses, as we all know how painful dusty lenses can be! Also, the air on aeroplanes gets quite dry so its a good idea to wear your glasses if youre going long haul, plus you can sleep more comfortably then.
