Tie Dye Jeans?

I have the urge to tie dye a pair of gray jeans. I know I want to use either blue or purple dye, Im just not sure how to get the effect Im after.

Hopefully that link takes you to an image that should give some idea of how Id like the jeans to end up. Im just not sure exactly what to do to make them like that..Any advice would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks

When we were kids we used to just get the garment and tie it tightly with string all over in a random way. Then a bucket with dye and chuck the garment in. Obviously you could dye the garment a solid colour first if you wanted also. I am sure you coudl do this in the washing machine also.
