Rag and Bone Man

Wow, we've just had a rag and bone man come round our way. Not seen or heard a rag and bone man in years, I didn't think they still existed!
The last time I saw/heard a rag and bone man was in my old house over 6 years ago and I think he came at weekends not 5pm on a Thuesday! (Well nearly 5pm!)
Do you still get them round your way?

We get the tinkers driving up and down our street quite frequently nowadays. We left an old TV outside the house just before Christmas last year, waiting for a bulky refuse collection from the city council - the tinker spotted it and he took it away.

Only the other day my dad and I were talking about this. We were telling my grandchildren about them. The ones that came round our way used to swap our old clothes for day old chicks or the colouring books that Robinia has already mentioned. Eee the good old days eh?!! ;>) BB

Well I don't know who took them nosha but they saved the brother in law 50 quid.
Like bertie I remember when they gave day old chicks, for years dad used to keep chooks and geese, mum used to save all our old clothes, some would be cut up for "Pegging" into rugs and the rest went for dads chicks. For the first couple of days he would keep them in a box on the hearth by the coal fire and I can remember coming home from school and finding a couple dozen chicks running round the kitchen, happy days
