Crazy crow

A mad crow has started attacking my car at 5am every morning making a really loud banging noise, i have covered the windows with a old duvet and all was quiet this morning. I have just now heard banging from upstairs and there is the crow smashing its beak into the window.my neighbough has same problem ,her car has been very badly damaged. anyone else had similar encounter? really dont know wht to do about it. any help appreciated Thanks

The crow is seeing its reflection and thinks it is another crow,, they can get territorial when they have young nearby. It is probably only a problem at the moment due to the angle of the sun and the way it is hitting the glass. The only solution I can suggest is cover the windows with something light coloured to reduce the mirror effect, The problem should stop when the young fledge in a week or so

According to the Wimbledon Guardian’s nature expert, Tony Drakeford, crows can be such a nuisance that they can often only be stopped using the most drastic of measures.

“Often the only humane thing that can be done is to bring someone in that can kill it. Crows are increasing in numbers and at this time of year [the mating season] they will get more aggressive.”

The other option is to use a ladder trap, check out internet for construction.

I'm sorry to be light hearted, but I really did read your question wrongly. I read it as 'Mad Cow'.

When I was working at the local primary school we had your problem with a crow who all day long banged at the windows like you describe, much to the delight of the children because it disrupted the lessons. It happened to me with a Jackdaw, but we think he was probably someone's pet Jackdaw, because he also used to walk in the back door to find us!! Also we had a mad Jay one year that attacked us in our gardens! Eventually, he went away, but it was quite frightening.

Can you phone up the RSPB and ask their advice. They might be able to help.

With respect Rowan, I know birds do do this when they see their reflection thinking it's another bird. But I don't think this is the case with this crow behaviour.

My wooden frames on a couple of windows are pitted because of birds trying to catch the eye of a likely mate!

Nothing useful to add but the crows round here are cawing from 4am til 8am. No evidence of them attacking cars or windows. Wonder if they've got young ones and are protecting their territory?

I have a naffing seagull who comes and bangs at my office window all morning, drives me crackers. I put a big photo of the cat on the inside of the window looking out, and the seagull hasn't been back since.

A possible solution. Bubblewrap over the roof and side windows, then use packing tape to stick together in the right shape. Some strings with a small weighty object on each or hooks to secure it to the door handle. Advantage is that it is very light and quick/easy to replace at night and take off in the morning. Added advantages in winter is that it will keep the windows from freezing up. Disadvantage is storage when not in use. (garden shed?)
