volume contrl
The slider on my Volume control keeps going back to Mute. I have double clicked on the Icon on the status bar and opened the whole of the Volume Control Menu and the slider on the there is the same but all the others are O.K. I have searched everywhere to see if I have switched the sound off but have not. Can anyone help?

Afraid I wouldn't know what a Codec is if I fell over it. Even so I am reasonably knowledgeable about the computer and its workings but things to do with sound I know nothing about - apart from checking all progs. games etc. to be sure nothing is switched off. On the other hand I am in touch with a very, very clever man who knows everything about computers inside and out but this has stumped him too. If you would be kind enough to look up the explanation for me I would be very grateful and, if I don't understand can pass it on to my friend as he is really into everything to do with music and he put my computer together for me but lives 150 miles away and has taught me by phone - so he would talk me through it.
Many, many thanks for your reply. It gives me hope....

Rang my friend and he knew all about Codecs and told me to rt. click on My Computer Icon and then Hardware and there was the list and in perfect order. He then talked me through all these sort of menus checking everything but nothing wrong there either. He thinks it might be that some prog. has a smaller prog. running in the background or something. It is not a big problem just annoying and doesn't seem to happen in the middle of anything - I just suddenly realise there are none of the usual little warning signals etc.and look at the Task Bar Icon and find the slider is at Mute and after sliding it up it usually stays for that session at least. If you think of anything else do let me know. Am grateful for your help.
