I was going to sign up with TalkTalk, having been repeatedly told by sales person (in supermarket) they had only UK call centres. A couple of questions I raised on the telephone with their sales people, they were UK. They were fine. A couple of technical questions and I got India call centre. Had language difficulties but, more importantly, they were not very helpful and didn't seem too interested. I'm currently with 3 but was having repeated connection problems. 3's call centres are also in India, but I have nothing but praise for them. They are SO polite it is hard to be rude to them (patience is not normally one of my virtues) and they will go to any lengths to sort out your problem. They then follow up with calls a week or two later to make sure you're sorted and if you've still got probs will keep going til it is sorted. I learned to speak slowly, patiently and let them finish speaking before telling them that they have possibly misunderstood my question. And repeatedly thank them, as they repeatedly thank me. So we all end up feeling a lot happier. Oh, and I'm only a £10 pm PAYG customer!
we used to be with BT (now Virgin) and BT were appalling. Used to dread our broadband conking out, as we could spend hours (a) trying to get through to a human being and (b) trying to understand what they were saying when I did get through to someone. On quite a number of occasions, I used to put m y complaints about their customer help desk to the Chief Executive of BT, in a letter or phone call.
Virgin aren't quite as bad, but they do presume that all their customers are completely computer literate and know what they are talking about!
