How do I send money to USA

My friend in USA has booked a trip and I want to send 300 dollars from UK. What is the easiest way to do this, apart from all the codes the bank wants ?

UK postal orders can only be cashed in certain countries, which are mainly Commonwealth nations. They can't be cashed in the USA. (Post Offices used to offer International Money Orders, which were similar to Postal Orders but could be cashed worldwide. However they've now been withdrawn in favour of Moneygram - see below).

Western Union and MoneyGram (which is often easier to find, since it's available at all Post Office branches) offer useful services but they're far from cheap.

I just went to M&S and got hundred dollar note bills and put it in an envelope and posted it for a few pennies.

I wouldn't send cash through the post without sending it registered and signed-for. PayPal is excellent, can be paid in any currency and your friend can get the payment paid into her bank account.

Or go to your bank armed with all the necessary sort and other codes. But you will probably have to pay an extra £25 (at least) to do it this way. And you need to go into the bank personally.

I would not send that sort of cash through the post at all. Our friend in France needed to send us 65 euros in cash, but we suggested it would be easier for him to send a cheque for the amount to our aunt and uncle (who live in France) so that they could cash the cheque and give the cash to us when we see them shortly.
