internet monitering
The Australian government is considering putting a bill through parliament that would require internet service providers to keep records of their customers online activities, this would include your browsing history and emails, and they could be kept for up to ten years, do you reckon this is an infringement of civil liberties or a necessary part of the war against terrorism and organized crime?

We are living in a different world now . Terrorists , Criminals . Paedophiles, Porn Merchants, all of whom would call themselves something different , are using the Internet for their own ends and any legislation to monitor their activities would be considered a violation of their human rights and at the very least a denial of free speech .
Which of course it is . If you punish any of them you are denying them them the right to behave in that manner. Recently known terrorists have got off scot free because the police were not allowed to use tapped phone and Internet evidence .
What can society do to protect the great majority of us ? At the moment the dice are loaded against us and maybe Austrailia is trying to restore the balance.

You're right of course.
Also the postal system - I believe all letters, bills and parcels should be opened, examined, read and recorded before delivery.
As to the tv you watch - that really should be monitored as there are far too many violent progs on, they could indicate your mental state.
I think that some people use phones in crime - drug deals etc so I propose that all phone calls be monitored and recorded by the authorities.
Of course, that could be seen as incredible interference in freedoms, but surely that's the price of freedom?
As to free speech - only free speech that doesn't offend me is allowable.
Or maybe all of the above is boIIocks?
