sun tan not sun burn
6 Answers
Hi
Probally a really common question. But I am quite fair and have never really tanned. Not all over that is. In patches, definatly! Went to portugal, still came back white.Anyway im off to the carribean (cant spell!lol) and im desperate to tan naturally. Atleast sunkissed. Is there anything that can be advised as I dont want to keep putting self tan on, its so tedious! Idont want to go in a booth as its so much upkeep, a salon fake tan.
Is there anything i can buy, that will encourage a moderate tan. I did see Hawian tropic, but wasnt sure.
Any help would be fabulous
Thanks

One bit of advice is ... keep moving.
If you stay in one position, the sun if focused on one bit, and you are more likely to burn. If you are moving around, each bit moves in and out of the direct sun, and does not have so much time to burn.
Will you have anywhere secluded where you can strip off altogether? Nothing feels (or looks) better than having a good bum tan. And once your bum has tanned once, it tans more easily next year.

Do you mean some kind of tan accelerator or just a good sun tan lotion? I`ve heard there are tablets you can buy that help you tan but don`t know whether they work.
As you probably know, the sun in the Caribbean is very strong and deceptive and you have to be careful. The fact that you have tanned in patches in the past means you can at least tan. Maybe you were overzealous with the factor 50! Take it sensibly and gradually and you will probably come back with some colour

I'm quite fair (or 'blue' as the man hostage delghtly fully puts it) but I do tan. I usually use factor 20 ('cept when I was in Oz and must have been the only brit to come back without a damn tan!) if it's 25 degrees and above and I stay exposed for about an hour, then cover up for a while and then have another little sun bath. I'm not going a bad colour so far this year so I guess it's working... Mind you, it's not been above 25 much so not like I've had to use sun screen!
Buy some P20.
It gives great protection, so you can stay in the sun much longer without burning. It's brilliant stuff, but not cheap.
Make sure you apply it thoroughly, or you will burn on the little bit you missed.
You can probably buy it in loads of places, but I know I saw it in Waitrose recently.
