How much tax, on average, does a typical family pay in total, including all taxes, VAT, duties, NI etc?

I think this would be fairly hard to put a figure on. I do remember reading that if you start work on Jan 1st, it takes until mid May to pay all your taxes. After that you are working for yourself for the rest of the year. Hi ho; only 3 months to go!!

If sddsddean is correct then the answer is 37.5% of your annual salary - based on 4.5 months paying tax, divide by 12 possible months (X 100%)
