I need to organise a buffet for a meeting at the place where I work and one of the people requires kosher food. Rather than try and find specialist kosher caterers would it be OK simply to have vegetarian food - including cheese and eggs? And would things such as tuna and mayonnaise sandwiches be OK?

Sorry ... but no you couldn't just do vegetarian food and you would probably find it impossible to do kosher catering yourself. Kosher is not only about the food itself but how it is prepared for example meat and milk must not mix or be served at the same meal. Your kitchen also needs to be kosher ... try http://www.ou.org/kosher/primer.html you will find all sorts of info there, My advice is to call in the caterers or go to a kosher deli.
My local ASDA in North London has a whole section of Kosher products. Not sure if this is true of all ASDA's or if it is just because they are a lot of Jewish folk in North London. May be worth checking out ?
Wendy, Thanks for the fascinating link. Never knew it was so complicated.
