adding memory to my pc?

I have recently inherited a 256mb memory for the pc. I know it isnt much but i was going to add it to my pc aswell as my memory i already have. i was wondering if when i plug it into the slot, when i start the pc will it automatically install it or do i have to change any settings etc. Thanks in advance

Firstly make sure its the correct ram for the motherboard. You can tell by the notches in the stick of ram. Don't force anything into the motherboard it should comfortably click into place. If its working ram and its compatible the computer will autodetect it and you can boot as normal.
