Well I got married in a church the first time I married actually, and I done it that way because it was a beautiful place to get married ans so much nicer than a registry office. The difference being, I needed a legal document of marriage, the promises and vows I said to my wife to be were sincere the pledges to God were just to get the licence, I wasn't exactly worried about being struck down, OK so I disrespected a non existent god to get my marriage certificate and for my wife to have a dream wedding.
I don't see it as being hypocritical, I just needed a marriage certificate, I just took the pee out of religion, I don't have a problem with that. A Christening is in no way a legal anything and does not need to be undertaken for any reason.
