BT Total broadband, phone connection

I have just changed to BT Total broadband but I didnt get the bt phone which connects to the home hub at the time. However I've since bought one from e bay and wondered if I can just connect it and get the benefits of it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a blue light on your home hub?

If yes then the BT talk service is activated on your account and you can use it.

If no then you don't have the BT talk service and it won't work unless you contact BT to get the BT talk service.
