I assumed it was because there are many Public Service workers, sitting in front of their computers twiggling their thumbs, with nothing to do.

I suppose I qualify as a public sector worker , working at the hospital. Wouldn't particularly ally myself to any party. However, would inform you that not only am I too busy to sit in front of a computer for more than a few minutes (besides which have only 2 between a therapy team of 30), all public networking sites (including Answerbank) are barred from our system.
If only I were a private sector worker, I would obviously have more time to play...

Ditto campbellking, I'm NHS - with the amount of emails alone I get on my desktop every day, let alone all the other work from other sources, twiddling is something I have never found myself doing. Would that I had time to twiddle, we don't often get time for a lunch break, and I got told off for not taking a break from the computer every 55 minutes. Who are these people with nothing to do? - certainly none of my colleagues. We too are barred from networking websites etc.

On the Eds "Are You Left Or The Right" Poll the other day it was more or less even stevens between left, centre and right. I dont really see that right, centre or left comes into it - there are many posters of all political shades as i sense it - and even you yourself as British National Party, with its socialist agenda, might not be “Right-wing” And you do a load of posting. And Richard Littlejohn is sometimes a bit biased and he isnt always right - but i still wonder sometimes how people when at work find so much time for posting on AB ?

AOG i just had another thought. If Richard Littlejohn and you are right, then when the heavy public sector cuts come in the not too distant future, those public servants that are left should have a lot more to do and wont have time at work to mess about on the computer like you suspect ? They're saying around 10% to 30% cuts in various Government departments - if your right, wonder if we'll see a decrease in the amount of posting on AB when the cuts fully bite ?

Im surprised by this article i have to say. Im a Public sector worker and have been for 22 years. Im a Systems Administrator and the staff just dont have the access to do these types of things that are being written about ? The staff's Pc's are very restricted and you just cant access certain websites as they are blocked and if you do attempt to a Restriction message is displayed and a record of this is made. Most staff dont even have external email or the ability to phone mobile phones or abroad. Obviously government departments differ but we arent all like the article that has been written. I would say from my experience that it would be just as bad if not worse in the private sector.
