P45
11 Answers
I got a job through the jobcentre which lasted 4 days. Won't bore you with the details but now have a problem.
I got in touch with the jobcentre and informed them I had left by mutual agreement and they have asked to see me next week to see if I am eligible for a re-claim(NI contributions paid only not jobseekers).
I have to take my P45 to the jobcentre but the place I worked at won't pay me until I give THEM my P45!
Any suggestions? TIA

When you left the JC, they should have given you a P45. Presumably they were remarkably delinquent at doing that. That P45 should have been given to the employer. If the JC didn't get around to doing it before your 4 days of working, you could (and still can) ask your ex-employer for a P46 form that declares your circumstances and enables the employer to deduct tax/NI off your earnings.
When the employer pays you, it will be able to give another P45, stating what it did about tax/NI from your earnings.
You give that one back to the JC, presuming you are re-registering with them.

Right. Go back to what boxtops has advised you.
The P45 from the JC is the one the employer wants. Then they will pay you - this was your original question, as I recall, though it seems an age ago now.
Having paid you, the employer will give ANOTHER P45 - with different numbers on it - made up to include the salary you've just received for working. The JC will want that one back again when you register as seeking work again.
