I have been split up from my wife for three and a half years.  Can anyone tell me how much a divorce will be and how I go about doing it.

It is not the divorce itsself that is costly, about �200 court fees, it is the solicitor's costs if u are sorting out property or maintenance that run up the bills, but most law firms will allow u to start a monthly payment scheme.

If property and pensions and things are involved it can be very long and drawn out and very costly.  Before you know what has happened the lawyers can take over and it takes on a life of its own.  If you can sort it out between yourselves it is by far the best option.  There is no way of telling how much it will cost but a couple of my friends have not had much change out of �20000 and yet another couple I know did it all themselves for quite a small sum.  A lot will depend on the size of the marital assets 'cake'.   One of you will have to start the ball rolling though by filing for divorce.  You mind find this useful although I suspect it is not independent, but has some general info.
