2 points....
1) a five year old laptop is probably going to be very low on memory by todays standards, if you right click on my computer and select properties it will tell you how much RAM you have installed, if it's less that 1GB then you need to consider upgrading your RAM
2) You have 5 years worth of "crap" installed that will all be slowing things down, it's possible to give it a good clean up by going to add remove programs and uninstalling everything you don't use but you'll need to be careful not to remove important things. though ideally the best way to speed it up would be to backup all your data and wipe the hard drive, re-install windows and start again.
