Word docs in Notepad format

I have a laptop with Windows Vista and use Microsoft 2000. I do not have a printer but have access to a PC (Windows XP) with printer attached. When I type a letter I save it to my memory stick and use the PC to print out. However the PC automatically loads the Word docs from my memory stick in Notepad format which apart from anything else throws all the spacing out of alignment. Anything I can do so that the docs will load onto the PC in simple word format?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

install word?

Or open office if you've not got a license for MS office
Or you could write and format it on your computer using Notepad, then there is no conversion when you print

Thanks - I think I've sussed it. It's only a temporary measure until I get a printer.
