Weighing Gold
11 Answers
I have some gold jewellery I want to sell, I won't be posting it to one of those sites you see on the tellie, I am thinking of putting it on ebay. Can i weigh the gold on ordinary kitchen weighing scales, or will they not be accurate enough ??

It's not easy. Gold is weighed using the troy ounce, which is different to the ounce on your kitchen scales.

A troy ounce is 5760 grains, compared to 7000 grains for the standard 16 oz to the pound.

why don't you go to a jeweller who buys second-hand and say you are thinking of selling? I did this with some silver and he told me how much it weighed and what he'd give me - so I took it away again, but at least I know the weight now. I got £40 for an gold wedding ring a few weeks back, from that jeweller.
