setting up a TV to connect to freeview
4 Answers
Could anybody advise me how to connect a television to a freeview box, dvd and vcr.
I have 3 scart leads and 3 coax leads but feel that I haven't connected them properly as I'm not getting any sound from the DVD or Freeview. I get sound from the television but when I change to the freeview I get a picture but no sound and the same from the DVD. Many thanks in advance for any assistance given.

Hi John ..
Few things to check first
Be sure you are using input scart sockets .. not an output for VCR, etc.
Make sure in TV input setup that scart is selected for sound, not HDMI (if you have new type flatscreen tv) This is for DVD input and Freeview input (I assume you are using an extra/spare input for a Freeview box)
Failing that, check whether you have fully wired or only partially wired scart leads. Find one that is and substitute it into the freeview scart connection.
Check there are no volumes turned down on Freeview or DVD units.
If you have the chance .. connect up DVD with HDMI with correct input setting in TV. Also RGB is good input for Freeview if no HDMI free. Use RGB enabled input and scart should carry sound ok.
Didn't you ask a while back about repairing a TV?
Cheers for now .. Al.

Hl Al, yes I did ask about the Samsung TV. I haven't had a chance to strip it down again yet as there are mega loads of screws to undo and it weighs a ton. I replaced one of the capacitors which had blown as I assumed that this was the problem but there must be another one blown somewhere else on the board, either that or there may be a dry joint on one of the panels but I'll have to get a stronger magnifying glass to check it out.
Thanks Stoofur, Wak and AlBags for all the answers, here's hoping I get it sorted today,
