Wiles of Whanney
20 Answers
'Out in the Wiles of Whanney' is a commonly used term to mean out in a remote area but I can't find anything on Google to explain its origin, or even to confirm the spelling.
Does such a term exist beyond the north-east of England and have I spelled it right or is it a phonetic derivation from something else?
Does anyone know?
