Over 25 years ago I was given a chicken brick as a house warming present by one of my friends. It was a terracotta 'brick' ,sort of chicken shaped with a base & lid both same shape & size. You soaked it in cold water before use, bunged the chicken in it, lid on and into oven, no need for basting, for about 1hr 30min - perfect every time! Then I lost it during a house move and I don't know where I can get another from now. The original came from Habitat. Anyone got any advice where I might get a new one? Most cookware shops look at me like I'm daft when I ask!!
If you're an e-bay person you could try looking there - I'm sure there must be lots of people who have them gathering dust in cupboards. I still have my Habitat one, bought 36 years ago and I still use it!
Thank you everyone, I didn't know Habitat still existed - we've not had one around here for years, but at least now, thanks to your links, I can order one online from one of the companies suggested. I'll be able to cook the perfect roast chicken again. Not done that for a while...!
