I have been told it is her birthday today.

A very powerful artist. Who suffered a terrible accident:

"On September 17, 1925, Kahlo was riding in a bus when the vehicle collided with a trolley car. She suffered serious injuries in the accident, including a broken spinal column, a broken collarbone, broken ribs, a broken pelvis, eleven fractures in her right leg, a crushed and dislocated right foot, and a dislocated shoulder. An iron handrail pierced her abdomen and her uterus, which seriously damaged her reproductive ability."

and produced great work. Read more on the wiki here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frida_Kahlo

The video should give anyone who doesn't know her work a quick primer.

A very gifted Mexican Artist Ed who tragically died at the age of 47, a real waste of talent !
But who never learned that one should deal with ones facial hair... I do like her work though something so powerful and uninhibited about her colours but with such good control over line and form
Question Author
Yes, it seems that way. Powerful symbolism in her work - all directly related to her own experience. A good kind of artist really.

she did deal with it, rowanwitch: she painted it. An artist who painted herself as she was, not as she might have liked to appear in OK magazine. She was married to another great artist.
Thank you for that, I watched the documentary about her some time ago. She was a very talented artist. Quite apart from her self-portraits and the symbolism, her other portraits appear to be lifelike as well.
She was married to Diego Rivera a talented artist, there was a biographical movie made about her life ! Frida starring Salma Hayek and Alfred Molina, I haven't seen it but would now like to watch it as she sounds a remarkable woman!
