Importing photos into Gimp
How do I import a full folder of photos into Gimp? I have used other image manipulation programs (PaintShop Pro, Irfan View, Photoshop Elements) and have been told that Gimp is the best of the bunch.
I would like to be able to see thumbnails of all the photos in a particular folder so that I can choose which to tinker with. All I seem to be able to do is to see the name or sequence number of the photo. I usually need several guesses as to which is the one I'm after. I usually end up using another program to display the thumbnails and then select the one I want. Is ther an easier, more elegant way?

Unfortunately I don't get Gimp on the list of Open with... options. I have found a way of opening all the thumbnails in any particular folder but it takes forever and the thumbnails are very small.
The recommendation - from The Ultimate Guide to Digital Photography - gave Paint Shop Pro a poor review and came down strongly in favour of Gimp. I wholeheartedly disagree! I have every intention of sticking with PSP which I have learnt to know and love and uninstall Gimp. (Good job it was free!)
If I am missing something please let me know!
