CAN I GET COMPESATION FROM POLICE?

I HEVE BEE STOPPED BY POLICE COUPLE OF DAYS AGO , THEY ASKED MY DRIVING LICENCE I DIDNT HAVE THE LICENCE BUT I GAVE THEM THE DRIVING LICENCE NUMBER ANDT THEY CHECKED ON THEIR COMPUTER AND THEY SAID YOU GOT PROVISIONAL LICENCE . I TOLD THEM I GOT FULL UK LICENCE FOR 2 YEARS BUT THEY DIDNT LISTEN TO ME AND THEY TOOK MY CAR TO POLICE CAR POUND AND THEY GAVE ME £60 PENALTY NOTICE FOR DRIVING WITH PROVISIONAL LICENCE AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE MY LICENCE TO LOCAL POLICE STATION , WHEN I CAME BACK HOME I CALLED THE DVLA AND EXPLAINED THEN THE STUATION AND THEY SAID THEY CONFIRM I GOT FULL UK LICENCE FOR 2 YEARS AND POLICE SHOULD SEE ON COMPUTER AND I WENT TO POLICE STATION TO SHOW THEM MY LICENCE BUT THEY TOOK MY LICENCE THEY SAID THEY GONNA SEND IT IN TO GET POINTS ANYWAYS I GOT MY LICENCE FROM POLICE STATION AFTER 2 DAYS BUT MY CAR IS STILL AT CAR POUND AND I COULDNT AFFORD MONEY TO GET MY CAR BACK AND POLICE CAR POUND STILL PUT £ 20 PER DAY AND THEY SAYS THEY GONNA CRASH THE CAR AFTER 14 DAYS. POLICE SAYS ITS DVLA FOULT BECAUSE ON THEIR COMPUTER IT SHOWS I GOT PROVISIONAL BUT DVLA SAYS THATS POLICE FOULD BECAUSE THE COMPUTERS UPDATEING REGULARLY AND POLICE SOULD SEE THAT, AND I GOT MY FULL UK LICENCE IN MY HAND ANYWAYS. SO WHAT SHALL I DO NOW? WHAT GONNA HAPPEN IF THEY CRASH MY CAR? HOW LONG ITS GONNA TAKE TO GET A COURT DATE? CAN I GET COMPESATION FROM POLICE OR CAR POUND OR DVLA?

you need legal advice - if you cant go to a solicitor then the citizens advice bureau maybe. The police do make mistakes and something similar happened to my nephew. Can you get someone to help you financially to get your car out and then argue the case afterwards to get a refund?

This question has been posted twice for some reason. Despite the capital letters etc I do have sympathy for this poster as it has happened quite a lot (probably a computer problem between DVLA and the police).

If they gave you your license back as opposed to sending it off for points (which I didn't think the police did for you) then they must have realised it was a computer error, are you absolutely sure that they are still intending proceeding to crush your car? If they have agreed to return your license then maybe you have misunderstood. Dies your license say it now has points on it?

Did they tell you why they stopped you? Maybe their machine pinged when you drove past, did they say straight away that their machine was showing a porv. license or was it something else that made them stop you?

Go see a solicitor, don't hang about.

have you paid the notice? If not do NOT pay it. Plead not guilty and go to court, produce your full licence and the magistrate will award costs to you. If you have paid you have effectivley pleaded guilty so it's a much more complex process involving lawyers, appeals etc.

This seems odd. Have you told us everything? Did you have appropriate insurance?
I can't see why the police would hold onto your car once you'd produced the full licence

Eddie51.. The police in certain areas have now got different powers and they can seize the vehicle if the driver is not showing as having a licence and if it is not claimed back within a specified time period then they will crush it.. Some police authorities do not produce 7 day wonders anymore..
