I wish I hadn't bothered now. It was merely to illustrate, as Bobbisox says, the banter of friendly rivalry which exists in equal measure either side of the Tyne. When the shipbuilding and repair industry was thriving on both banks of the Tyne, people were nicknamed according to the locality they came from, hence "Hillbillies" (Wallsend), "Cod Heads" (North Shields), "Sand dancers" (South Shields, but who remembers Wilson, Kepple and Betty these days?)
